Geoffrey Pyatt wrote about the meeting in his Twitter.
“I had a good meeting with the leaders of the Crimean Tatars this morning, during which reaffirmed unwavering support of their community,” stated he.
U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt met the national leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev, Chairman of the Milli Mejlis of Crimean Tatars Refat Chubarov, Member of the Presidium of the Mejlis, deputy chairman of the Mejlis Aslan Omer Kirimli, Crimean Tatar National Assembly delegate Rustam Umerov.
According to Monitoring Group of minority rights, Crimean Tatars are the most vulnerable target of xenophobia in Ukraine. This is corroborated by numerous facts of suppression of the independent national movement, activists’ persecution, and liquidation of Crimean Tatar mass media and other institutions, public events bans, “February 26” affair etc.
