44 people stay in custody in Belarus as participants in massive anti-government protests. Interior Ministry of the Republic of Belarus reported that on August 18.
These people were detained as members of "unauthorized massive events", the Ministry reported.
Earlier, the Belarusian Interior Ministry confirmed the fact of third death during the protests. It appeared to be a young man who deceased at the Partizansky bridge in Minsk, NAVINY.BY reported. The 19-year-old died on August 18. A Renault light-duty vehicle ran over a pedestrian who was on the roadway at the moment of the tragedy. The Interior Ministry claims that the pedestrian was warned by the driver, but he did not withdraw in time.
As we reported, several members of electoral committees in Minsk claimed that the electoral process in Belarus was rigged. Meduza wrote this, citing the elected members of committees.
One of the members said that the actual number of voters did not match the numbers mentioned in the protocols. "For instance, we had 20 over the day, and there were 70, according to the protocol", he said.
The same man said that at first, the committees counted the bulletins from preliminaries, and they heard that Alexander Lukashenko was winning there. On the other hand, most of the citizens who voted on the election day supported Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya.
