Over five months of the active visa-free regime, 2.5 million Ukrainian citizens used their biometric IDs to travel across the EU

Since June 11, when the EU-Ukraine visa-free regime took effect, over 341,000 Ukrainians visited EU countries without visas. Andriy Demchenko, the head of press service of Ukraine’s State Border Guard said that at a roundtable meeting in Kyiv on Tuesday.

‘Over five months of the visa-free regime, about 2.5 million Ukrainians visited EU countries with their IDs; 341,000 of them enjoyed the benefits of the visa-free regime without visas. That’s three percent of the entire Ukrainian population,’ he said.

The visa-free regime between the EU and Ukraine took effect on June 11, 2017; the European Parliament approved the respective decision on April 6. 52,000 Ukrainians crossed the EU border on the first day of the visa-free regime.
