French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated compatriots as head of the state, reports Le Point.
In his speech he addressed not only the citizens of France but also to all Europeans, saying that 2018 would be decisive for the strengthening of the EU and a fight against terrorism.
"At the European level, 2018 will be decisive: I am fully involved in this struggle because I am deeply convinced that Europe is good for France, that France can not succeed without Europe," the French leader said.
Also in his speech, the president urged the French and other European countries to strive to ensure that Europe is not inferior to China and the US, and could defend its own values that have determined a common European history.
In this aspiration, the inhabitants of the EU countries must "make a leap", not yielding nothing to skeptics or nationalists.
We recall that Macron became the president of France on May 14, 2017. His main actions at the beginning of the presidential term were aimed at liberalizing the labor code (which caused mass demonstrations in the country) and reducing the pressure of tax legislation. The new president took an equally tough position in the international arena, defending the interests of a united Europe, and also striving for the implementation of the Minsk agreements by Russia.
