13 law enforcers killed during clashes in Almaty; two of them decapitated

13 law enforcers were killed, two of them were decapitated, and 353 officers were injured during the riots, which occurred in Almaty the day before as Sputnik Kazakhstan reported.

According to the city commandant's office, the body of a decapitated man was found. He was also a law enforcement officer.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health reports that over a thousand people were injured during the protests across the country. About 400 of them were hospitalized, 62 people are in intensive care.

Earlier it was reported that security forces are conducting an anti-terrorist special operation in Almaty, with plans to return all administrative buildings to the city's control. The police reported dozens of victims.

In the beginning of 2022 protests erupted in Kazakhstan after the increase in the price of liquefied gas. Demonstrators announced an indefinite action. Demands to reduce the price of gas have grown into calls for the resignation of the president and government. The Internet has been shut down in the country, law enforcement agencies seized military equipment, make arrests. Kazakh TV channels suspended broadcasting.

After a couple of days of anti-government protests, the Cabinet of Kazakhstan has filed a resignation letter, and President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev accepted it.

On January 5, a state of emergency was declared all over Kazakhstan amid massive fuel price protests.

Besides, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which includes six post-Soviet states, has approved the deployment of troops into Kazakhstan, where mass protests accompanied by riots are currently taking place.
