Ukraine's National Сouncil of Television and Radio Broadcasting appointed unscheduled inspection of 112 Ukraine TV channel on an absolutely trumped-up pretext and it is the continuation of the attempts of the Ukrainian authority to take away the TV channel from its legitimate owner and stop the independent broadcasting.
The unscheduled inspection of the 112 Ukraine TV channel was appointed after the interview with Petro Symonenko on July 27, 2020. Particularly, the National TV Council noted in its decision that the broadcaster violated the law of Ukraine 'On TV and Radio Broadcasting' (the use of TV and radio organizations for urges for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order of Ukraine is not allowed). It cites a fragment of conversation with alleged violations.
In fact, there are no urges “for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order of Ukraine” in the cited fragment; the issue was about the need to establish peace in Donbas and the importance of the fulfillment of the Minsk Agreement, which was also stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during the Normandy Format meeting.
Consequently, 112 Ukraine TV channel believes that the National TV Council made a decision about the unscheduled inspection without proper reasons and it is the gross violation of the legislation and pressure on the independent broadcaster. This step is the continuation of the attempts of the Ukrainian authorities to take away the broadcaster from its legal owner, MP of Ukraine Taras Kozak, for political reasons.
Thus, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) demands to arrest corporate rights of 112 Ukraine TV channel to pass it to Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) management. The SBU filed the appeal.
112 Ukraine TV channel believes that such actions are authorized by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
Earlier, 112 Ukraine TV channel was deprived of the digital license after the direct pressure on the judges by the former head of the President’s Office Andriy Bohdan.
The story repeats today. 112 Ukraine TV channel believes that the President’s Office responsible for pressure on the TV channel which aims to control the information policy of the broadcaster. The authority uses all possible tools – from the National TV Council to the SBU.
112 Ukraine TV channel informed the European structures, OSCE, international organizations on the protection of the rights of the journalists and other organizations about these incidents.
112 Ukraine TV channel will continue to defend its right for independent information policy.
