108 citizens of Ukraine detained in the Italian prisons for the illegal transportation of the migrants. However, there are victims of the human trafficking among them as Lyudmyla Denisova, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights reported on Facebook after the negotiations with Davide La Cecilia, the Italian Ambassador to Ukraine.
“108 Ukrainians are in the Italian prisons now. They were detained for the illegal transportation of the migrants. However, there are victims of the human trafficking among them. Five of them were released from the arrest according to the decision of the court. Now, the Foreign Ministry work with those who fall under this definition and prepares the proper documents,” Denisova said.
She noted that she appealed to Ambassador Davide La Cecilia with the request to take into account the information from Ukraine during the consideration of the cases of such prisoners.
“I got a complete support. Mr. Ambassador assured me that he will assist to make the documents get into the Italian courts in the right time,” Denisova reported.
Due to the fact of the Italian presidency at the OSCE, ombudswoman urged the ambassador to support the political prisoner of Ukraine and the country at the international stage.
“We talked about the real state of the exchange of our political prisoner detained in Russia and occupied Crimea. I noted that I cannot get the full information about the real health state of Oleg Sentsov and Volodymyr Balukh from my Russian colleague. All preliminary agreements on this issue were not fulfilled by Russia,” she said.
She emphasized that Russia blocks the return at home of the sailors of the Nord ship and “YMK0041”, while Ukraine did everything possible to release them.
Over two hundred Ukrainian sailors are now held in custody in Greece and Italy. State Secretary for Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry Andriy Zayets said that on August 7.
As of June, there were 151 Ukrainian sailors in Greece, 98 of them were detained for transporting illegal migrants. Over a hundred Ukrainian citizens are now held in Italian prisons, judged for the same kind of violation.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry reported that 42 citizens of Ukraine were convicted and 78 Ukrainians are under the investigation in Greece due to the accusation of the transfer of the illegal migrants.
Earlier we reported that 214 Ukrainian sailors imprisoned in Greece, India, Spain, Libya, Oman and Sri-Lanka as the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine reported.
According to BIMCO and ISF, 69,000 Ukrainians worked on foreign ships in 2015. Ukraine was enlisted to the TOP-6 largest supplier of the workforce to the ship owners.
