I read the news about Belgian man. He founded a farm in the Lviv region ten years ago and established a cheese production there according to French recipes? And now he thinks about selling his business, calling the project "an unsuccessful experiment." The first problems began when the project was launched: it turns out that it was forbidden to import goats into Ukraine. The second point of stumbling was the problems with the allocation of land for grazing livestock and growing food. It turned out that all the issues on the land are solved by local half-criminal men, with whom we must negotiate. At the same time, requests were made from all sides to give money here and there. The main message is "you should live with our society." The last straw was the decision of the local council to give a piece of farmland for the construction of a granite plant. Bernhard Willem summarizes that he has not learned to live and do business in Ukraine, because he does not want to "negotiate". Because of corruption, the family business, he said, is doomed.
Will you say that the authority of the village is to blame? I do not think so. All of us are guilty. The problem is in a general inverted attitude to deceit and lies. Deceive someone is considered permissible and fully justified. Create stupid manipulative rules and offer a paid "acceleration", to intimidate entrepreneur, to deceive the customer, to take somebody’s project, etc. And this is not because of power, as many believe, but because of a specific social contract within which such a relationship model is considered permissible. Negotiations, solving, secret rules. Therefore, it is difficult for foreigners, if not impossible. They just do not understand these perverted markers.
As for the victories. Honestly, I'm the last one to level real achievements by calling white black. But just like any thinking person, I’m tired of this performance for biomass, which, like porridge, spread through the cities and villages. I often fly abroad and see that foreigners are interested in Ukraine exclusively in the context of the possibility of pumping out brains and workers. Restaurants and nature attract at the very least a few tourists; entrepreneurs prefer countries with more clear rules of the game. Therefore, the case with this Belgian - this is not "betrayal " against the backdrop of "deafening victories", but our hideous rotten reality.
