Powerful cyber attacks that have occurred in recent years were conducted by the cybercriminals from the Russian Federation. This was stated by Secretary of the National Security Council and Defense of Ukraine Olexander Turchynov, the press service of the National Security Council reports.
According to him, about a week ago began the active phase of large-scale cyber attacks on information resources of Ukrainian government agencies, critical infrastructure, and private sector institutions.
"These attacks were pre-planned and coordinated with the center in the Russian Federation", said the secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine, explaining that the attacks were carried out with the use of computer networks located in different countries.
"One of the main objectives of cybercriminals was to destabilize the financial and banking sector in Ukraine on the eve of the New Year, which would lead to the disruption of the campaign on social payments, the leading complication of functioning of state institutions and blocked the budget process", said Turchynov.
Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine stressed that thanks to the efforts of specialists affected computer systems have been restored.
"The analysis of cyber incidents showed that the information resources that are connected to the public system of cyber defense have not been damaged”, said Turchynov, adding that due to the lack of funding a large number of information resources of state bodies has not yet been connected to the system.
According to him, the question of strengthening cyber security state information resources in conditions of aggressive manifestations of a hybrid war on the part of the Russian Federation will be discussed at a meeting of the National Coordination Centre cybersecurity involving Ukrainian government leadership.
