The last pipe for the Nord Stream 2 was welded with the over 1.5-year delay. According to the Nord Stream 2 AG, firstly, it would be laid on the sea bottom in the German waters and then, it will be welded to the part of the pipeline near the German coast.
However, the gas pipeline is not ready for exploitation.
The tests for the hermetic state should be run and further welding works should be held on the ground. It is expected that Russian Gazprom will supply the first batch of natural gas to Germany in October.
On September 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the Nord Stream 2 would be finished soon.
The end of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the waters of Germany by Fortuna pipe-laying ship was planned for September 12. Besides, the Russian company Gazprom has stated that the first line of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is almost ready for launch.
Nord Stream 2 is the second gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea, which is due to supply gas to European countries. According to the plan, the gas pipeline should pass through the economic zones and territorial waters of five countries: Denmark (147 km), Germany (85 km), Russia (118 km ), Finland (374 km) and Sweden (510 km).
