PJSC Ukrzaliznytsya (Ukrainian Railways) managed to improve its operating and production efficiency in 2017 and, thus, expects a positive financial result for the year, the company announced, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
According to recent updates, 2017 was the first year since 2007 when Ukrzaliznytsya improved gross freight turnover by locomotives by 3.4% to achieve a total figure of 302 billion ton-kilometers (tkm). Particularly, transit traffic rose by 2%, to reach 20.1 billion tkm. At the same time, passenger traffic grew by 3.6%, to 28 billion passenger-kilometers,” Ukrzaliznytsya announced on its official website.
These improvements were caused by the expansion of the operating fleet of railroad cars, as well as a rise in load indicators on average per day. Another factor that contributed to the overall success was the drop in the idle time of a car per one cargo operation by 1.3%, or by 0,8 hours.
“All these achievements combined with improved operating efficiency allow PJSC Ukrzaliznytsya to expect a positive financial result based on the work done in 2017,” the enterprise stated.
According to its data, the company sold a total of 53.67 million tickets in 2017. This means a 10% increase compared to the 2016 result. Earlier, Ukrzaliznytsya claimed it expected to transport 348.4 million tons of freight and 202.8 passengers over the course of 2017.
Ukrzaliznytsya is the country’s largest operator of freight and passenger transportation by rail. The enterprise is responsible for 82.4% of Ukraine’s total freight traffic and for 33.4% of passenger traffic.
