Ukrzaliznytsya to launch 22 modernized electric trains by end of 2018

PAO Ukrzaliznytsya intends to launch the third since the beginning of the month renovated and modernized electric train for suburban connections by the end of June. Moreover, the corporation seeks to renovate a total of 22 electric trains by the year’s end, the company’s press release reads, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“The suburban connection remains a difficult issue. We currently have over 90% of fleet exhaustion, as well as UAH 4.5 million in losses recorded on these operations in the previous year alone. However, we are now catching up with what had not been done for many years before, - we are renewing our fleet of suburban trains. In 2018, we are looking to restore 22 electric trains”,- the message citing Ukrzaliznytsya’s Chairman of the Board Yevhen Kravtsov reads.

In June 2018, two modernized electric chairs have already been commissioned after general restoration to the Southern and South Western regional railroad lines.

Another modernized electric train will be supplied to serve the passengers of suburban connections on the Lviv regional railroad line. 

The base cost of such restoration of a single train is between UAH 35 and 38 million. The electric trains were repaired at the Kyiv electric car repair plant.

Apart from the major overhaul, the aforementioned trains underwent a number of modernizations that are aimed at improving the conditions of passenger transportation and increasing the reliability of these electric trains.

In the first quarter of 2018, PAO Ukrzaliznytsya posted UAH 271 million in net profits, which is 20 times greater than the respective amount exhibited in the first quarter of 2017.

As reported earlier, PAO Ukrzaliznytsya received UAH 114.55 million in net profit in 2017, compared to a loss of UAH 7.32 billion in 2016. However, the total losses amounted to UAH 77.24 million instead of UAH 7.43 billion a year earlier. The corporation claimed citing its audited consolidated report.

At its meeting on 14 February, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a consolidated financial plan of PAO Ukrzaliznytsya with expected revenue of UAH 92.2 billion and a profit of UAH 0.7 billion.
