Ukraine's $3 billion debt on Eurobonds was not included in the gas agreements with Russia, reached in Berlin and Minsk on December 19-20. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak stated this in the air of Russia 1 TV Channel, Interfax reported.
“This is a compromise, we decided not to put in the framework of gas negotiations, because if we try to do that, we would not find a solution. We, as law-abiding citizens, will execute the decision of the Stockholm court, and if there is a decision of the London court regarding sovereign debt, then, as the court decides, we will fulfill it. We reset it so that the gas issue does not worsen the relationship between us," Kozak said.
He recalled that Ukraine and the Russian Federation decided to abandon all mutual judicial claims, and Gazprom would pay $ 2.9 billion by the decision of the Stockholm arbitration.
Earlier, Ukrainian Minister of Energy Oleksiy Orzhel announced that Ukraine, within the framework of package agreements, will withdraw all gas claims against Russia; this decision does not apply only to the Stockholm arbitration.
“We will resolve the issue of future arbitrations. This is a potential win, but we already have a vision of what transit arrangements are, so in this case, a package solution involves a review of positions regarding future arbitrations. That is, a decision on 3 billion is clearly defined, decisions on others will be recalled directly within the package," he said.
