Among foreigners, the largest number of apartments in Poland are purchased by citizens of Ukraine. In 2019, foreigners bought 8 500 apartments in Poland. Among them, 3 200 apartments were bought by Ukrainian citizens, which is 37.6% of the total. These statistics are cited by PAP with reference to the Gethhome.pl real estate portal.
According to experts, foreigners most often buy housing in large cities: Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan, and Gdansk. The total area of housing purchased by citizens of other states is 204 thousand square meters. Taking into account the average cost of 1 sq. m. of housing at the level of 9 000 zlotys (2 000 euros), foreigners last year paid for it more than 1.8 billion zlotys (about 400 million euros).
Experts note that Ukrainians most often buy apartments in Poland to meet their housing needs, while Western Europeans, such as Germans, see it as an investment.
According to experts, in the coming years in Poland, the upward trend in the volume of housing purchased by foreigners will continue, although this year it is likely to decrease due to the coronavirus pandemic.
