Ukraine’s Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk said in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda that Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) would not be handed over to anyone for concession or privatization.

"Neither concession nor privatization, that is, Ukrzaliznytsia should not be transferred to the possession of anyone. We have no such plans. We have plans to build a strategic partnership with Deutsche Bahn for many reasons. Ukrzaliznytsia is one of the largest Ukrainian companies with hundreds, thousands of people who work there," the PM said.

He also added that the involvement of German experts, coordinated by Deutsche Bahn, is under the government’s consideration. As of now, the Memorandum envisages the first phase of consultation.

As we reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, German national railway operator Deutsche Bahn, and DB Engineering & Consulting signed a memorandum of understanding regarding a strategic partnership for the development of Ukrainian railway system, Interfax informed.

"We emphasized that within the framework of our cooperation, we will primarily focus on consulting ... And we are confident that our cooperation will be successful," Ronald Pofall, member of the Deutsche Bahn Infrastructure Management Board, stated this.
