Ukrainian Parliament approves prison term of up to 10 years for illicit enrichment for sum exceeding USD 24,000

The Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian Parliament has passed the bill on the illicit enrichment. The draft law No.1031 was approved in the second reading and in the entirety; 259 MPs supported it, with 226 votes necessary to pass. 

The document foresees from five to ten years behind the bars for illegal enrichment on the sum that exceeds USD 24,000.

The respective cases will be considered by the collegium of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine. The appeals will be considered by the Appeal Chamber of the same Court.

The draft law foresees that the bank secret will be revealed to authorities of prosecution, State Bureau of Investigations and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, if the unreasoned assets are detected. If the assets are detected by the National Bank, this authority has the right to provide information about the clients of another bank.
