The Verkhovna Rada, the Parliament of Ukraine, passed the 2017 state budget; it took MPs long enough to finally come to terms and vote for the document to be approved. The lawmakers worked around the clock – since yesterday morning till the early hours of Wednesday, December 21.
‘I sincerely congratulate all of us. This tough sleepless night was worth it. We approved the next year’s budget. I’d like to emphasize this is not just the budget of development; this is the budget of Ukraine’s defense, the budget to protect the entire free world. Voting for it, we also voted for our guys out there on the firing line who need our support,’ the Parliament’s Speaker Andriy Parubiy said.
According to the parliamentary committee on budget issues, the key financial document foresees, in particular, funding of state support programs for those who suffer oncological diseases due to the Chornobyl disaster, as well as stimulation of the agriculture industry.
