On December 20, 2019, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) introduced a renewed banknote of 50 hryvnias, the press service of the NBU reports.

"This is part of a complex solution to optimize and update the banknote-coin line of hryvnia, which: contains more reliable and counterfeit-proof banknotes; provides the convenience of cash payments and cost savings for the state," the statement said.

It is reported that the completion of the process of hryvnia banknote’s optimization is scheduled for 2020 with the introduction of the updated banknote of 200 hryvnias and coins of 10 hryvnias. Due to complex changes, the nominal range of the hryvnia will eventually shrink and reach the optimum size - 12 denominations.

As we reported earlier, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) introduced the new banknote of 1000 hryvnias.

The new banknote has been available since October 25. Its size makes 75x160 mm, with blue as the main color. It features the portrait of Volodymyr Vernadsky, the famous scientist and the first president of Ukraine's Academy of Sciences.
