Sales of brand new light vehicles in Ukraine increased by 24.5% compared to 2016 figures. Altogether, 80,271 brand new light vehicles were sold in the country in 2017, while December saw the most successful month since the recession – 8,820 cars were sold within the month, AUTO-Consulting reports.
“December turned out to be a very good month for auto dealers, especially compared to the previous two months of stagnation. The devaluation of the national currency at the end of the year encouraged buyers to visit dealerships. For example, for the first time in three years, dealers of one brand were able to sell over 1000 cars within one month. This is something that has not been achieved in Ukraine in a very long time”, - experts point out.
Renault became the market leader in December, with 1121 of new light vehicles sold. This means a 50.3% increase in sales compared to November 2017, which enabled Renault to obtain a 12.71% market share. Toyota came in second with 967 automobiles sold, up by 18.5% to November. Experts explain that Toyota finished the year as the market leader, thanks to increased sales in the second half of the year.
Volkswagen was at #3 in December with 762 vehicles sold in that month. Compared to the previous month, Volkswagen was able to raise their sales by 46%. Having sold 657 vehicles in December and improved their sales by 7.4% month-on-month, Skoda occupied the fourth place. Lastly, Hyundai became the fifth largest seller with 485 sales made in December, which demonstrates a 18% rise compared to November.
Also, the Uzbekistan-manufactured brand Ravon managed to sell 286 vehicles in December 2017, which enabled the company to be included in the top-10 list. Ravon was 12th in the list of brand new light car sellers of Ukraine in November. The initial predictions made by industry experts for 2017 were in the region of a 25-30% growth in the market compared to 2016.
