Ukraine's Energy Ministry suggests using excess nuclear power for cryptocurrency mining

The Security Service of Ukraine has revealed the largest underground yield farm in the country. The object is located in Vinnytsia, central Ukraine. The illegal use of electricity could cut the city's entire living quarters off the grid, the SBU's press office said.

The monthly amount of loss from such activity varies from 178 to 250 thousand U.S. dollars.

"The culprits were mining cryptocurrency while in one of the former offices of Joint Stock Company Vinnytsiaolblenergo. Currently, it is the largest underground yield farm revealed by Ukrainian law enforcers. Almost 5,000 computers were seized", reads the message.

The illegal yield farm was created by residents of Kyiv and Vinnytsia. They illegally took electricity from the networks of Vinnytsiaolblenergo company. The law enforcers opened the case for the illegal use of electricity. They also searched the main office and the apartments where the culprits lived; they seized 3,800 gaming consoles, over 500 GPUs, 50 CPUs, documentation of electricity use, notepads, phones and USB drives.
