The increase in the domestic consumption of the metal products and encouragement of its export abroad should become the basis for the development of the mining and metal sector industry. Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Industrial Policy and Business Activity Viktor Galasuyk claimed this at the International Metallurgical Forum as Uaprom reported.
According to him, the statements that metallurgy and industry are the past of Ukraine are a great strategic mistake.
‘People who tell this they understand nothing in the economy. If we look at the strategic documents, program documents of the development of the EU and countries-leaders of the economic development, we will find the metallurgy takes the main place in the industrial policy and support. The mining and metal sector industry is the quarter of the Ukrainian industry, it is a quarter of our products export and the base of support of hryvnia’, Galasuyk claimed.
He noted that Ukrainian metallurgy should be defended and developed.
‘Talking about the defense, you know that we held the so-called metallurgy law in the parliaments that temporary increases the export duty for the metal scrap. The plants have the raw materials, people have the work, and the army has the equipment and armament owing to this law. But it is a tactic, it is anti-crisis la and it should be done immediately’, he emphasized.
According to Galasuyk, it is not enough. ‘We need a strategy, we need a development and I am sure that we will talk about this today at the forum. Talking about the strategy, the increase of the domestic consumption and encouragement of its export abroad should become the basis of the strategy. We systematically work on this at the Verkhovna Rada to create such terms. The increase of the domestic consumption is the building of the infrastructure. We have the capabilities of the metallurgical plants, financial tools that can launch the mechanism. Also, we should stop to make mistakes. We should create the encouragement for the development of the mining and metal sector industry’.
Galasuyk noted that is very important to encourage the export of the products of the machine, aircraft, shipping industry, railway coach manufacturing and others.
‘We hold a few strategic initiatives in the industrial parks that will create the special conditions for the producers to encourage the export. It will be a special tax regime. This is a law that is already adopted in the parliament. It is the export-loan agency that will make cheaper the financing for our producers and exporters. We can export not the metal scrap buy the products that are more expensive and then the Ukrainian plants and producers will need the Ukrainian metal. It is very logical’, Galasuyk summarized.
