Ukraine runs the risk of a forced withdrawal from international organizations because of debts on membership fees, the amount of which is more than $ 20 million. Vesti agency reports this.
It is noted that the country owes the 78 international organizations on membership fees more than 20 million USD.
A debt to the United Nations has accumulated for one and a half years.
The Foreign Ministry told reporters that the priority for Ukraine is the membership in 5 organizations - the UN, the Council of Europe, OSCE, WTO and UNESCO. Ukraine needs to transfer $ 1.7 million to the UN operations in peace-keeping until the end of the year, not mentioning the annual membership fee of $ 2.56 million.
"In terms of membership in the United Nations clearly states that if the amount of debt is equal to two years' contributions, - the country will lose the right to vote. It is not as the OSCE or the Council of Europe, it is dangerous", noted Political Adviser of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN Victoria Kuvshinnikova.
The Foreign Ministry assured that all payments will be transferred, and the debt is attributed to untimely payments of funds the Ministry of Finance.
An expert in international issues Pavlo Rudyakov believes that the Ukraine’s exiting from world organizations is extreme, which is regarded as an international move. But expediency of membership in certain organizations, in his opinion, is worth reconsidering.
The expert pointed out that Ukraine is not the only country with debts, and many of the more successful and rich countries do not always fulfill their obligations on time.
