Ukraine and India have signed new agreements worth $20 million to expand bilateral military and technical cooperation during the 10th international defense exhibition Def Expo 2018, which is going on in Chennai, India on 11-14 April, the press service of the Ukroboronprom State Consortium informed on Thursday, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
According to the report, s the result of the Ukroboronprom’s participation in the event, Spetstechnoexport, which is a part of the consortium, signed agreements worth in total around $19.5 million.
“Representatives of the state-owned enterprise Spetstechnoexport, as part of the exhibition, signed an agreement on cooperation with Indian state-owned enterprise Bharat Electronics Limited. The contract provides for cooperation between the parties on issues of modernization and localization of manufacturing of components for armored vehicles. Representatives of the Ukrainian and Indian defense industries are to be involved in the creation of a new tank that has been requested by the Indian Ministry of Defense. The modernization of radar and air defense systems manufactured in the former Soviet Union, and joint research and engineering development, including in the sonar and radar fields,” the statement reads.
Bharat Electronics Limited is one of India’s largest suppliers of defense products for the nation’s Ministry of Defense. Spetstechnoexport, on the other hand, is among Ukraine’s most prominent special exporters. It became a part of the Ukroboronprom State Consortium in December 2010.
Ukraine and India are currently cooperating on planning the expansion of the bilateral military and technical cooperation in the area of military shipbuilding and are considering the opportunity of setting up joint production of power equipment for ships of the Indian Navy, according to the press service of the Ukroboronprom State Consortium.
