The sales of new automobiles in Ukraine in January 2018 increased by 40.6% compared to the same period last year. Altogether, 6,620 new vehicles were sold last month. According to AUTO-Consulting, this was the best post-crisis result for this month, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
Analysts suggest that such a sudden rise in sales may be caused by the exchange rate “fever”, which made Ukrainian consumers to hurry while deciding on the purchase of vehicles whose prices were increasing at a slower pace than that of the U.S. dollar exchange rate.
Moreover, a lot of orders were filed in December, whereas in January the deals were finalized,” analysts added.
Just like a year ago, Toyota became the best-selling brand of vehicles sold in January 2018. Toyota managed to almost double its sales and obtain a 14% market share.
Unsurprisingly, Renault came second (with a 8.9% market share), whereas Volkswagen finished third with 8.7% of the market. Both Skoda and Nissan, which became the fourth and the fifth most popular brand respectively, are seeing a gradual rise in sales.
Conversely, Mazda came very close to doubling its sales, while the Uzbek Ravon managed to boost its sales by three-fold. It could be argued that Ravon is conquering the Ukrainian market of new automobiles – last year it ranked as the 17th most popular brand in the country, whilst today it is already number eight.
AUTO-Consulting added that Audi was the most popular premium brand of new vehicles in January 2018. Audi’s sales rose by almost three-fold, which put the German carmaker inside the top ten of the Ukrainian market.
