Russia has paid the arrears of contribution to the budget of the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council 2017-2018. Thorbjørn Jagland, the Secretary-General of the Council stated that during the interview with the Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen.

"Russia has just paid all its arrears. That's a relief," the message reads.

The Secretary-General also stated that payings for two years were not the reason for which the international organizations tried to keep the Russian Federation in as a full member.

"We want to be able to help protect the rights of Russian citizens,” Twitted Daniel Holtgen, the Spokesperson of the Secretary-General.

Holtgen also confirmed for the TASS that the Russian Federation has paid all the sum.

"I can confirm that the funds for 2018 and 2017 (€54,7 million) were transferred on 97% as of this morning," he said.

As we reported earlier, Head of the British delegation to PACE Roger Gale had urged to reconsider Russia’s return to the organization due to mass detentions and beating of protesters in Moscow
