President of Russia Vladimir Putin held the phone talk with Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel. They discussed the prospects of the transit of the Russian natural gas through the territory of Ukraine after January 1, 2020, and implementation of Nord Stream 2 as the website of the Russian president reported.
The talk took place on the initiative of the German side.
"The results of the Normandy Format Summit in Paris on December 9 were positively estimated, some steps of the implementation of Minsk set of measures were agreed as they are the unopposed basis of the settlement of south-east of Ukraine,” Kremlin stated.
Dmitry Peskov, the Spokesperson of Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated that the representatives of Ukraine and Russia held the short meeting on December 9, concerning the gas transit; however, the sides failed to find a consensus.
The Normandy Format meeting took place in Paris on December 9.
As we reported, Putin and Zelensky met in Paris as part of the Normandy Quartet meeting. The peace negotiations, known as the Normandy format, started back in 2014. The last Normandy Four meeting took place in October 2016, the roadmap on establishing peace in Ukraine was elaborated, however, the parties failed to fulfill it.
Later Putin stated he was pleased with bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Leaders of Ukraine and the Russian Federation, Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin have so fa during the bilateral talk.
As we reported the next Normandy Format Summit will take place in four months.
