Protests against illegal gambling took place near the Internal Ministry building in Kyiv. This was reported by the correspondent of the 112 Ukraine TV channel.

“The protesters note that the Internal Ministry allegedly protects gambling business that is forbidden in Ukraine. The activists brought gaming machines to the entrance of the Ministry and the tables for card-playing,” the correspondent reports.

The action named “The Casino of the Internal Affairs” finished a few minutes ago. Internal Minister Advisor Illya Kiva just came to the office and he expressed his position: he stands for the legalization of gaming business to increase the flow of taxes to the budget.

As it was reported before the legalization of the gambling business in Ukraine was brought to a stop by the Law of Ukraine “On the prohibition of gambling business in Ukraine” from May 25, 2009. Thought the question of the legalization of the gambling business became pressing again in the past years.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine registered in the Verkhovna Rada the draft worked out by the Ministry of Finance on the gambling legalization on December 11, 2015. Then the government changed the draft for the amended version on December 22. According to the ex-Minister of Finance Natalya Yaresko, the draft’s purpose is to ensure social and cultural needs of citizens.

Earlier it was reported that the Cabinet of Ministers approved draft agreement on EU aid to fight corruption. The signing took place on November 24.
