President Petro Poroshenko expects the tender on licenses for 3G and 4G service in the 900 MHz range in Ukraine’s rural areas. He told this on 6 March during an auction on the sale of licenses to introduce 4G mobile service, broadcast live by 112-Ukraine.
“I suppose that after this auction we are going to request our regulator to conduct another auction in the 900 MHz range, which would allow us to introduce the third and fourth generation of the service for rural areas of the country. This, in turn, would enable rural healthcare and education to develop, providing reliable and efficient internet service for rural councils.
Poroshenko also told that carriers will launch 4G connection in most regional centers this year, in Kyiv – within a few months.
“What is the fourth generation in cities? I think that the terms of the licenses provide for the launch of the fourth generation service in most regional centers in 2018. In Kyiv, I hope, the service will launch within a few months”, - he said.
He described the tender itself as transparent and competitive.
“It was impossible to imagine such a tender earlier. $339 million was acquired during the tender for third generation frequencies, while another $75.5 million were allocated to the nation’s armed forces for frequency conversion. Moreover, around $1 billion was invested in Ukraine’s economy in order to provide Ukrainians with quality service”, - Poroshenko pointed out.
