The participation of U.S. representative Anthony Tether in the supervisory board of the Ukroboronprom State Consortium will contribute to the transparency of the state consortium’s operations, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
"This is a symbol of effective cooperation between Ukrainian and American partners," the press service of the head of state cited Poroshenko on Wednesday, 21 February.
The president also added that the participation of the U.S. representative in the consortium’s supervisory board “will promote transparency, openness and effectiveness of the institution.”
“Five years ago no one could imagine a US citizen on the supervisory board – the adytum of secret to which nobody was allowed. It is a nightmare for the first department of the KGB. Now we are implementing very decisive changes,” he said.
Anthony Tether, in turn, expressed gratuity to the head of the Ukrainian state for the great confidence and opportunity to cooperate with Ukrainian partners, and confidence in the successful implementation of many projects of the military-defense complex of Ukraine.
Poroshenko also noted that Ukroboronprom’s supervisory board should develop a strategy to enhance the management efficiency, the speed of decision-making and, jointly with the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the country’s defense ministry, fulfillment of tasks that would allow the military to operate with modern weaponry. Poroshenko added that the adoption of the state defense order in February provides extra opportunities for Ukroboronprom’s corporations. He also noted the importance of accessing overseas markets.
