Parliament votes to improve business environment for small local winemakers

The Parliament of Ukraine has adopted a law that ensures a simplified, declaration-based procedure for the small-scale production of wine products on a declarative basis, UNIAN reports.

Law #6693 “On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine for the development of the manufacturing of terroir wines and natural honey drinks” gained the support of 247 Members of Parliament. A minimum of 226 votes was required for the law to pass.

Reportedly, the law aims to establish better conditions for smaller local corporations. As of today, in order to obtain a license, one is required to obtain some 140 permits. The law provides for a simplified procedure for small-scale manufacturing of wine products on a declarative basis. In 2017, some 10.3 million decaliters were produced in the nation.

Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian gardeners and berry producers will be eligible for the reimbursement of up to 80% of the cost of planting materials in 2018.

Prior to that, it was announced that the 2018 state budget would allocate $10.4 million for the support of horticulture and wine growing.

The 2016 state budget allocated $218 million for the support of Ukraine’s agricultural industry, whereas the 2018 state budget provides for the allocation of $252.6 million to the cause.
