Head of the Russian Gazprom Energy Company Alexei Miller stated last week that the construction of the pipeline is finished by 94%. Currently, the length of the gas pipeline makes over 2,300 km.

Mass media reported citing the Danish authorities that stacking works in its waters should start in the mid of January.

Denmark provided Nord Stream 2 AG with the license for exploitation at the beginning of October.

Initially, the launch of a 1,200 km gas pipeline was planned for January 2020. However, in December 2019, the works on the pipe-laying on the bottom of the Baltic Sea were stopped due to the threat of the U.S. sanctions toward the European contractors.

Washington believes that the Nord Stream 2 will make Europe more dependent on the Russian gas. According to U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo, Washington works on the creation of the coalition to prevent the end of the construction. Germany and some other European countries held discussions about possible sanctions also concerning the Nord Stream 2 amid the poisoning of Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny.

However, at the beginning of October, the Danish Energy Agency granted a permit to operate a section of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, subject to a number of conditions ensuring the safe operation of the pipelines.
