Naftogaz of Ukraine CEO Yuriy Vitrenko stated that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline could not be certified because it did not comply with European legislation. Vitrenko stated this during a briefing.

"Our main position is that Nord Stream 2 cannot be certified because it does not fully comply with European legislation," Vitrenko said.

In addition, Vitrenko noted that the certification of the Nord Stream 2 operator will harm competition in the German market, and will harm competition in the European market, in particular, in the markets of Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Austria.

"We are one of the main players in the European gas market. Therefore, we are interested in this market being competitive," the chairman added.

As it was reported earlier, Chairman of the Board Yuri Vitrenko stated that Naftogaz of Ukraine has submitted an application for participation in the certification of Nord Stream 2 operator.
