In 2019, the National Bank of Ukraine acquired $ 8,46 billion on the interbank foreign exchange market and sold $ 0,53 billion, thus replenishing foreign currency reserves by $ 7,93 billion, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

A record volume of currency was purchased in the last week of 2019 - $ 1,56 billion, including $ 730 million - at the first foreign exchange auction since November last year.

At the same time, the National Bank indicated that this week it also made the first interventions in support of the hryvnia since mid-October this year, selling $ 50 million.

As reported, on December 26, the National Bank made a purchase of $ 700 million to avoid hryvnia rate increase.

In general, the National Bank announced an auction for the purchase of foreign currency in the amount of up to $ 1 billion, due to the risks of excessive hryvnia fluctuations in the direction of strengthening and limited market opportunities for self-balance.

Earlier an agreement was reached on cooperation between Ukraine and the IMF on a new lending program. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva discussed this during a telephone conversation.

Kristalina Georgieva confirmed the agreement on cooperation with Ukraine on a new program worth 4 billion SDR (Special Drawing Rights), or about $ 5.5 billion, the press service of the Fund said.

As we reported, the mission of the International Monetary Fund intends to continue discussions on a new lending program for Ukraine.
