Ukraine is implementing the European method for calculating gas transit rates. It guarantees that this transit will be economically viable for Ukrainian, European and Russian parties. The director of NJSC Naftogaz-Ukraine Yury Vitrenko announced this on his Facebook page.
According to this methodology, the tariff should correspond to the costs of the Gas Transportation System’s operator.
"The transit tariff calculations, which were shown to Gazprom and now commented by the Russian side, only cover the adjusted costs of the operator of Ukraine’s Gas Transportation System, and therefore this tariff cannot be considered overestimated," Vitrenko wrote.
As we reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky presumed that the issue of a new contract on the transit of Russian gas to Europe through the territory of Ukraine would be discussed at the meeting in Normandy format on December 9, but it is not related to the problem of war in Donbas. Zelensky stated this in an interview with Western media, Interfax-Ukraine informed.
"Although our European partners claim that this is not a political but an economic project, I will allow myself to disagree. However, if we manage to conclude a new transit agreement for a period of up to 10 years, if the Europeans help us and Russia does not oppose it, then we will be able to say that "Nord Stream-2" is not a political project. So far it is a baseless statement," Zelensky said.
