Andriy Kobolev, Chairman of Naftogaz-Ukraine's Board said that the company is ready to discuss the extension of the contract on gas transit with the Russian Federation. He said this on the air of one of the Ukrainian TV channels, UNN correspondent reports.
"We are ready to discuss the extension of the contract. We are also ready for this contract to be considered by a new independent unbundled operator. In order to do this, Ukraine needs to complete the implementation of European legislation governing the Ukrainian gas market. And then the conditions for the extension may be better than the conditions that are currently in force. For Ukraine," Kobolev said, commenting on the statement made by Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak that they were considering an extension of a contract with Ukraine in 2020.
As we reported earlier, Serhiy Makogon, the Chairman of LLC Operator of Gas Transmission System of Ukraine, stated that the transit of natural gas from Russia to Europe through Ukraine had amounted to 2,55 billion cubic meters in January 2020, while transit services had been paid at the rate of 5,52 billion cubic meters.
"The paid capacity is used at 46%," he said.
