Prime Minister of Moldova Maia Sandu fears that Ukraine and the Russian Federation will not come to an agreement on the gas transit issue. She stated that today, on September 25, as the Interfax-Ukraine News Agency reports.
According to Sandu, in such events "there is a possibility that Moldova will not be able to receive gas supplies starting from January 1, 2020."
The Prime Minister urged citizens not to worry, as the government is already preparing for such a scenario.
"We have got some technical solutions. One of them is to buy and keep gas in Ukraine but the storage capacity suggested by Ukraine is not enough for providing with it the whole territory of Moldova," Sandu said.
The PM of Moldova also emphasized that the building of Jassy-Kyshyniv gas pipeline should be finished this year on the territory of Moldova and until March 2020 on the territory of the country." So they can not count on gas supplies this winter.
"This variant does not work in this heating season. But we are looking for ways to not stand without gas this winter. The government is working actively on this issue," she added.
