The measles epidemic came to Ukraine from Romania, acting Minister of Healthcare Ulyana Suprun said during her briefing, 112.ua reports.
“Measles came to us from Romania, which also has problems with vaccination”, - Suprun told. She added that 4782 cases of measles were recorded in 2017, 75% of which were with children.
According to Suprun, 86% of the diseased were not vaccinated against measles accordingly to the calendar.
“Vaccination is the only cure against measles”, - Suprun stressed.
Suprun said that in 2017 6 individuals died from measles sequela, 4 of which were children.
Within 11 months of 2017 3382 people were diagnosed with measles in Ukraine. Last year four lethal cases of measles were recorded. As of 15 January 2018, 87 cases of measles in Kyiv have been recorded. Between 10 and 14 January, more than 10,000 children were vaccinated against measles in Kyiv.
74 people were diagnosed with measles, another 500 cases were recorded in the Chernivtsy region (Western Ukraine).
