Belarus has increased the supplies of the hard coal to Ukraine almost by 1,000 times amid the two-fold increase of the import of such fuel from Russia, as naviny.by reported.
It is stated that Belarus mostly purchase the coal from Kiyzaysky opencast mine owned by Russian company VostokUgol.
Belarusian trades, who purchase coal from Russia, do not exclude that the product from the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk Republics come to Belarus along with the Russian one.
“Is it Russian or Donetsk coal - nobody knows how Russians prepare documents for it. Everybody knows that surely it is taken from Donetsk to Rostov, dealt there and taken further. But it is the issue of the Russians along with Luhansk and Donetsk regions of Ukraine. According to the documents, it is Russian coal,” one of the company-traders said.
Tekhnova (Chernihiv thermal power station) and Euro-Reconstruction (Darnytsia thermal power station in Kyiv) purchased coal in Ukraine. Both of companies enter Ukrteploenergo owned by ex-MP Anatoliy Shkryblyak (of 5th convocation; member of Yushchenko's Our Ukraine party).
Coal was also supplied for Podilsky Tsement Plant, which enters Irish Holding Company CRH and for Slovyansk thermal power station owned by Donbasenergo. Maksym Yefimov, the MP from Petro Poroshenko’s Party, purchased the company from the son of ex-president Viktor Yanukovych in 2018.
Ukrainian trader Ami Trade, which sales fuel in the villages, also purchased coal from Belarus.
According to the data of the Ukrainian customs statistics, four Belarusian companies dealt with the supplies of coal: Business-Alliance (80,260 tons) and Trans-Coal (46,290 tons) from Gomel and Ecoil Chemical (27,070 tons) from Polotsky region, and EcolineSystems (20,110 tons) from Minsk.
The companies with small investment funds were registered in 2014-2018.
Business-Alliance is completely owned by Andrey Baido. The businessman said that he does not supply coal to Ukraine anymore as it is not profitable.
“We have not been dealing with it for a few months. It was profitable to take it through Belarus, we took through Belarus. Now, we are not interested in it. The prices decreased and it is difficult to work with the Ukrainians. There are the 90s. We do not like such practice”, Baido said.
According to him, he does not use the illegal schemes in his work and he did not supply coal from occupied Luhansk and Donetsk under the guise of the Russian. “You cannot take Zaporozhets under the guise of Mercedes. Coal strongly differs by its characteristics. The labs issue certificates. They will not forge them. It is impossible. We are not interested in the illegal schemes,” Baido emphasized.
Co-owner and Head of EcolineSystems Eduard Bogdanchuk reported that he supplies coal to Ukraine because it is profitable, but, according to him, it will come to the end soon.
“Nobody deals with grey schemes definitely. Everything is legal. We work in such a way now, because it is quite profitable. It is even better for Belarus. Everyone earns on it. But more people want to earn on it day by day, so, it will come to the end soon. There is no politics,” Bogdanchuk said.
As we reported, Ukraine spent $2.693 billion for the purchase of the coal, anthracite and gas coal from January until November 2018.
There are 14 thermal power plants in Ukraine; six of them work on the anthracite coal and others use gas coal. It is planned to switch some of the plants for the use of the gas coal extracted at the territories controlled by Ukraine.
