As the IMF and Ukraine are in the middle of negotiations in Washington, the Fund does not bring up the issue of increasing the gas tariffs for Ukraine's population. Yakiv Smoliy, the Head of the National Bank of Ukraine said so in an interview with the Voice of America.
"The issue of the gas price is not discussed because the government had previously passed the decree that regulated the tariffs. Besides, the current situation at the world market is quite favorable; the gas prices dropped, so we don't talk about increasing them for the time being", the official stated.
He added that the major topics discussed by Ukraine's delegation and the IMF concern the country's state budget in 2020, the matters of land market and bills that regard restoration of criminal responsibility for illicit enrichment.
According to Smoliy, Ukraine's representatives in Washington met with David Lipton, the IMF Deputy Managing Director and Ron van Rooden, the head of the IMF Mission in Ukraine.
