On 7 February, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a resolution with amendments to the rules for the provision of passenger transportation services and amending the procedure for conducting a tender for passenger transportation on public bus routes, effectively launching the reform of the bus service market, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“This is not a space flight that we watched with enthusiasm last night – this is a real revolution in the bus transportation sector! Transparent and fair competition will result in millions of people in Ukraine not having to use the morally and physically worn out minibuses, frequently illegally redesigned cargo minibuses. It will provide Ukrainians with modern, comfortable and safe buses. The preparation of this reform began in 2016. These were two long years of stress, blocking and counteraction, fighting, but it is well worth it,” Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan posted on his Facebook page.
According to the minister, the amendments made to the government’s resolutions will enable to change the situation in the bus service sector across the country very soon.
“For the first time in the last decade, we have eliminated obsolete rudiments and introduced the procedures that are mostly aimed at improving the security and the quality of transportation, as well as establishing conditions for disabled people,” Omelyan said.
