Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States of America Valeriy Chalyi has held a meeting with the president and CEO of General Electric Transportation Rafael Santana to discuss bilateral cooperation on the modernization of Ukrainian railroads, Ukraine’s embassy to the USA has informed, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“During the meeting the ambassador stressed the importance of completing the long-term framework agreement between GE Transportation and Ukrzaliznytsya, which would allow Ukraine to acquire top-notch locomotive technology”, - the message published on the embassy’s Facebook page read.
Chalyi emphasized the issue of localization of new locomotive manufacturing and modernization of the existing fleet of locomotives on Ukraine’s present production capacities.
“The parties agreed that the delivery of the first 30 Evo diesel locomotives will be the initial step for future cooperation between Ukraine and General Electric, which would also include cooperation in the energy, infrastructure and healthcare sectors”,- the message added.
General Electric is an American multinational conglomerate incorporated in New York and headquartered in Boston. In 2017, GE ranked among the Fortune 500 as the thirteenth-largest company in the U.S. by gross revenue. In 2011, GE ranked as the 14th most profitable U.S. firm. As of 2012, the company was listed the fourth-largest in the world among the Forbes Global 2000. The Nobel Prize has twice been awarded to employees of General Electric: Irving Langmuir in 1932 and Ivar Giaever in 1973.
