Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel announced the possibility of lowering gas prices for Ukrainians due to the transit of blue fuel from Russia. This was reported on Facebook.

"The signing of the agreement (on gas transit - ed.) made it possible to stabilize the market situation, and accordingly there are all positive factors for reducing prices. And today the Cabinet of Ministers made appropriate decisions," Orzhel said.

The minister promised to make public the details of decisions on gas prices on January 27.

According to him, such a favorable situation has arisen due to the fact that until January 22, Gazprom paid twice as much as actually pumped gas - 47% of the paid volumes. He recalled that the terms of the gas transit agreement with the Russian Federation imply daily minimum pumping volumes of at least 178 million cubic meters.

We recall that Ukraine, the Russian Federation, and the EU signed a new gas contract for 5 years with the possibility of its extension for 10 years. In early January, Director-General of the Ukrainian GTS Operator Serhiy Makohon announced that the Russian Gazprom had fully paid off Ukraine for gas transit, despite a decrease in pumping volumes.
