Former Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder re-elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Rosneft Russian oil and gas company. Schroeder was re-elected at the annual meeting of shareholders, the press service of Rosneft said.

As you know, Gerhard Schroeder has been heading the board of directors of Rosneft since 2017. Matthias Warnig, head of Gazprom's Nord Stream 2 subsidiary, has also been re-elected to the board.

Schroeder is considered a close friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In Germany, the 76-year-old former chancellor is criticized for working for the Kremlin-controlled concerns Rosneft and Gazprom. Schroeder, however, states that this is his own business.

Earlier it was reported that following the meeting of shareholders of Rosneft, Schroeder will be paid remuneration for 2019 in the amount of $ 600 thousand. Matthias Warnig will receive $ 580 thousand. For Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov and Chairman of the Board Rosneft Igor Sechin rewards were not provided.

Criticism of Schroeder in Germany intensified in 2017 shortly before the Bundestag elections, as Rosneft came under EU sanctions because of the annexation of Crimea and its intervention in Donbas conflict.
