The European Union did not take into account the partnership arrangements and stopped the import of chicken meat from Ukraine, as the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection reported.
“According to the operational message from the European Commission, which was received yesterday in the evening, the import of chicken meat, meat products from chicken and thermally unprocessed products from chicken from Ukraine to the territory of the EU. However, eggs and egg-products do not fall under these restrictions,” the message said.
In accordance with international commitments, Ukraine, as a member of the World Trade Organization and World Organisation for Animal Health, informed its international trade partners about the detection of cases of avian influenza.
Ukrainian actions on control and liquidation of avian influenza recognized to be equivalent to those held EU countries-members.
“Considering the reports of numerous missions on the estimation of the equivalency, the results of talks and preliminary agreements, the mentioned decision of the EU is absolutely unexpected for the Ukrainian side,” the message said.
Earlier we reported that Ukraine joined the top five of the world's largest exporters of chicken meat.
