The European Commission has made a decision to impose the temporary protective measures toward the import of the steel products. It will also concern 11 types of the Ukrainian metal production exported to the EU. The decision was made on July 17 and comes into force today, on July 19.
According to the document, totally, the decision includes the restrictions on the supply of 28 types of the metal production. The temporary tariff quotas are imposed towards 23 of them up to 200 days.
It is specified that the quotas will act on the principle “first come, first served.” The duty in 25% will be imposed at the supplies that were not included in the quota.
Besides the Ukrainian production, the restriction was also imposed for the supplies from Brazil, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, India and Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Moldova, Macedonia and South Africa.
The hot rolled sheets and stripes, cold rolled sheets, steel square blanks, aluminum bars, stainless rebar and light sections, a rod made from the non-alloy and alloy steel, corners and special profiles, pipes for the gas pipelines, profile sections, seamless stainless pipes, non-alloy wires are on this list. The investigation of another 17 types of the Ukrainian production continues and their supplies are not restricted yet.
The Economy Development Ministry promises to assume measures to protect Ukrainian producers as its press service reported.
“The Economy Development Ministry along with the Ukrainian producers defend the position within the investigative procedure that: the EU does not possess enough ground to initiate the investigation according to the WTO demands and taking into account the current state of the development of the EU metal industry,” the message said.
Also, the ministry plans to hold the number of the hearing with the representatives of the Ukrainian producers in September to provide the position of Ukraine on this issue before the European Commission.
