Ukraine can supply anthracite from Russia or Republic of South Africa instead of that from Donbas, but it will cost two times more. The Energy Minister of Ukraine Ihor Nasalyk announced that, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

“There are alternative sources, we can find then even tomorrow. But what we change then? We can start supplying anthracite coal from the Kuzbas (Kuznetsk Basin, Kemerov region, a federal subject of Russia in southwestern Siberia, - ed.), the only difference is that we will pay to Russian miners instead of paying to ours, we will pay to Russian budget instead paying into the Ukrainian one,” Nasalyk said on air of ICTV.

He also added that the Donbas coal producers are registered in Ukraine, thus the taxes come into trhe budget of Ukraine.

According to the Minister, the further blockade of Donbas coal supplies from the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions beyond Ukraine’s control shall lead to the destabilization of Ukrainian energy system, shutdown of iron and steel companies, which leads to currency revenue shortfall and loss of more than 300 thousand jobs.

Ihor Nasalyk noticed that there are some disadvantages of alternatives coal supplies.
