The Minister for Temporary Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons, Vadym Chernysh, estimates the demining of Donbas at about 800 million dollars. He expressed this opinion on the air of Radio Liberty.
"Preliminary estimates for demining. Croatia has an area of about 50 thousand square kilometers in 20 years, it has spent slightly more than $ 800 million for demining of this territory, demining for development so that you can plow, sow, build," Chernysh said.
Answering the clarifying question of the present - can we assume that the costs of demining in Ukraine will be about the same as in Croatia, Chernysh answered in the affirmative.
"I think that yes if in general we do the whole evaluation, I think that it is possible ... considering the territories that are not controlled by the government, then yes," he said.
At the same time, the Minister noted that these are approximate figures, and a full assessment can be made after the liberation of the occupied territories of Donbas.
According to Chernysh, it is necessary to create an agency under the aegis of the government, which will coordinate all activities related to mine clearance and careful handling of ammunition.
As previously reported, the demining of the territory of Donbas will take from 10 to 15 years. Such calculations were presented at the headquarters of the Antiterrorist Operation (ATO) last year.
