The consumer inflation in Ukraine hastened up to 16.2 percent in the year-over-year basis, while the consumer prices index lowered by 0.1 percent. This was mentioned in the message released by the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

Speeding up of the inflation, which took place in August, was caused by growing prices on food products and cigarettes; besides, meat and milk products grew more expensive on the domestic market.

‘The actual level of inflation exceeded that forecasted by the National Bank in July 2017. This is due to growing prices for raw food and tobacco products. Fruit and vegetables grew in price due to bad weather conditions in the spring, while meat and milk grew in price on the domestic market,’ the NBU reported.

The authority admits that by the end of the year, the rate of inflation decrease will lower, in spite of the forecasts.
