Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Chinese President Xi Jinping promised to provide the world with 2 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine by the end of this year, which he called a powerful weapon against coronavirus. This is stated in his video address, according to the UN press service.
“In addition to donating $100 million to COVAX, China will donate 100 million doses of vaccines to other developing countries in the course of this year,” he added.
He also assured that China would continue to support and participate in the global scientific tracking of the origin of the coronavirus and would resolutely oppose political maneuvering in any form.
As it was reported earlier, in early August in China, the authorities launched a mass test of millions of people for coronavirus and introduced new travel restrictions due to a new outbreak.
In the same month, China asked the WHO to investigate a possible coronavirus leak from US laboratories.
