On February 16, the price of a bitcoin exceeded a historical threshold of 50,000 U.S. dollars. Thiis is mentioned in the message at Coindesk platform.

According to the information, on Tuesday, one unit of the cryptocurrency cost 50,484 U.S. dollars, which became the largest price ever - since the bitcoin was created in 2008. However, the bitcoin rate dropped since the moment the new price was observed on February 16. As of late Tuesday, the price of one unit makes 48,4000.

At that, the exchange rate of this digital currency in various platforms may differ, because there is no central system of bitcoin digital trading.

In early 2020, the price of the bitcoin unit made some 8,000 dollars. In March, during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic, it fell to USD 4,000. Then, the price began to rise; in autumn 2020, the exchange rate grew considerably. In November, the figure exceeded USD 18,000, and in December - 20,000.

Bitcoin is a digital currency used for exchange on goods or services - as long as salesmen agree to accept such currency. It was created in 2008 by an anonymous mathematician.
